Crazy Football Fans

This video is a great example of how the digital age and internet can capture great moments in sports like this one.  Never before have we been able to see how fans react in the privacy of their own homes during a sports event.  Seeing how upset and emotional these Viking fans were after Brett Favre's horrible pass can help a sports journalist understand how powerful and meaningful that moment was, especially to fans of the Vikings.  Videos like this can give a sports journalists a clear idea of what it is like to be a fan and to have so many emotions invested in your team.  Understanding this can only help a sports journalists because when he writes about this game the next day he will be able to use some of those emotions from fans like these to help write a deep and engaging article about what a game with this magnitude really means.

Digital Communication in Sports Commentary

This video shows how digital communication plays a big role in sports and the journalistic aspect of sports.  All of these guys are former NBA players and are now commentators of their sport.  Even though this is all for fun and humor, advances in technology have made it possible for these men to gather and make comments on sports together while not actually being in each others physical presence.  This kind of work can virtually be done in front of your own computer screen or on your phone.  In the field of sports journalism, this allows for faster communication with colleagues and a more rapid inflow of information for sports journalists.  It also gives people seeking a career in sports journalism and freelance journalists more opportunites to establish themselves because the web connects millions of people across the world and reliance on "big" media for sports information is becoming less and less necessary.

I choose this logo because Espn.com is a domain where sports writers can demonstrate their expertise on particular topics in sports.  Espn is like the major leagues of sports writing.  Writing for Espn.com means you are highly respected in your field.

Career Interests

I am still undecided about what I ultimately would like to do as a career.  At this point, there are three things I could see myself doing.
  • Music Producer/Hip hop artist
  • Free lance sports journalist
  • Television Producer
These are three areas I am really interested in.  I could see myself producing either music or television because I have a creative mind, but I also consider myself a multi-tasker who can be organized and in charge of people.  I also know what good music and television is and I think my work would stand out from what is regularly put out there.

I also love writing, especially about sports.  I'd like to think I am moderately knowledgeable when it comes to sports so free lancing would allow me to utlize my knowledge in a number of different topics that deal with sports.  As a freelance writer, you are free to pick and choose your topics and what you write about.  I realize being a free lance sports writer does not pay as well as working for a company of team or whatever, but I think having the creative control to write about what you want to write about would be a better option than being restricted by any man's agenda.

The link I am providing is a link of a sports blog written by a freelance sports writer.
